Activity 1

Uses the default “Day” color preset, showing moderate greens and blues with neutral land tones. The typography is clean and standard (DIN Pro). Still the default Mapbox Standard but zoomed in, highlighting dense urban road networks and road label visibility. Colors remain balanced and neutral; motorway and trunk roads are clearly differentiated with soft purple-gray hues. This style introduces POI options like POI density and landmark icons, making it slightly more informative. The tone is cooler with lighter water and muted land colors—useful for suburban or semi-rural mapping. Font switched to Crimson, adding a more stylized and humanistic look. The greenspace and water colors are brighter and more saturated, creating a lively, almost playful aesthetic. Best for highlighting cultural or local areas. Uses PT Sans typography and maintains the Day preset, but roads are styled with stronger, darker blues and gray contrasts, emphasizing transportation infrastructure. Gives a crisp, data-driven appearance—ideal for navigation-focused use. This version uses the Rubik font, producing a clean and modern appearance. The map emphasizes urban structure clarity, showing roads and building footprints with muted beige tones. Greenspaces and water areas have soft, pastel colors — ideal for minimalist visualization or architectural layouts. The green elevation shading and red administrative boundaries stand out, showing how Mapbox Standard adjusts to emphasize terrain and political borders at larger scales. Road shields are highlighted for navigation clarity. This configuration enables 3D buildings and trees, plus landmark icons like the Sydney Opera House. It’s highly detailed and visually rich, combining strong contrast between roads, land, and water for maximum readability. This version features a desaturated, grayscale style within the standard “Day” preset. The focus is on road network geometry, using dark black roads over light backgrounds. It removes most color distractions, useful for infrastructure analysis or thematic overlays. The Monochrome color theme transforms Mapbox Standard into a black-and-white aesthetic, paired with PT Sans typography for clarity. It’s a clean, print-friendly version that highlights terrain relief through subtle gray shading. The Monochrome theme presents a grayscale terrain emphasizing topography and relief through subtle shading. Ideal for analytical or minimalist visualizations where color is not needed. Uses Default color theme with dark elevation shading, highlighting mountainous regions. This version provides strong terrain contrast, effective for visualizing landform variations. A bold, high-contrast rendering with dark land masses and pale water. Minimal labeling enhances abstract readability—great for pattern or density visualization. Features vivid water color and clear road hierarchy. The strong blue rivers and lakes draw focus to hydrology and urban structure—useful for city-scale design or tourism mapping. Switches to the Satellite basemap, combining real imagery with vector labels. Terrain and built environments are photorealistic, overlaid with clean white labels for clarity. A wide-area satellite view showing natural vegetation and terrain with subtle administrative boundaries. Suitable for regional analysis or environmental overview. Combines satellite imagery with Crimson typography, giving a stylized and readable urban presentation. The overlay highlights key urban zones like the Entertainment District and CN Tower. The Sniglet font adds a friendly, rounded style to a dense urban satellite view. White vector roads contrast strongly with real imagery for clear visual navigation. Presents lush forest texture and winding river systems in natural color. Minimal overlays allow the landscape itself to dominate — best for ecological or geographic visualization. Displays detailed urban satellite imagery with highlighted vector road networks and interactivity options enabled. It merges realism with functional clarity—useful for urban mobility or GIS interaction design. A dense urban satellite view with clear POI labeling. Restaurants, hotels, and gyms are vividly highlighted in color-coded categories. Ideal for commercial mapping or tourism visualization. Shows major infrastructure and transport connectivity around the Thames, including the Millennium Dome and Silvertown Tunnel. The overlay highlights motorways and navigation routes, making it suitable for transport or event mapping. A detailed downtown satellite image with cultural landmarks labeled in purple, such as the Sichuan Museum and Tianfu Square. Balances realism and clarity—perfect for urban heritage or planning analysis. A regional satellite overview showing the ring-road system and transportation network. This perspective illustrates urban sprawl and infrastructural density, useful for urban growth studies. Captures an industrial urban environment with high-contrast roads and a cold-toned landscape. The Cyrillic labels and precise building forms make it ideal for northern urban or environmental monitoring.

Final Project 2 Design

I chose the view of the riverside in my hometown, Wuhan, as the central theme. The design separates the scene into two main visual layers—the shore and the water—to highlight the natural contrast in the landscape. To enhance the sense of motion and atmosphere, I applied a flowing animated effect to the water surface using TouchDesigner. Grounding the work in a personal and emotional connection to home.
